Follow up from May 5th meeting regarding Cedar Grove School construction:
Why 2 story?
Limited space on campus was a concern. In order to fit at least 30 single story classrooms, we would have had to design finger buildings, meaning several rows of classrooms. This would create wasted space between buildings.
The major concern was supervision and security. It would be a nightmare to supervise, appropriately, students between the fingers. Also, it would provide blind spots that would be a security concern.
These were the two major reasons.
Where do we have other 2 story classrooms?
Our newer schools are two story schools, such as Carolyn Clark and James F. Smith. We also added a 2 story building at our Montgomery school. The main reason for this was, again, the most efficient use of limited space. Supervision and security were secondary.
